Last year, I had only one eye, but that didn’t stop me from putting myself out there and selling my expertise.
If you don’t know my story, here's a snapshot—just as I was launching my consultancy in January 2024, I lost my eye in an accident. It was a life-altering moment, but it didn’t hold me back.
I’ve written a lot about my journey with disability on my blog. One post from May still holds true today. I wrote that “Independent consulting should be an extreme sport.”
If I could double down on one tip from that post, it would be this: Don’t be shy.
Going solo in consulting means betting on yourself every single day. It’s about showing up even when you feel uncertain, owning your expertise even when imposter syndrome creeps in, and putting yourself forward even when the industry feels tough.
Find daily practices to boost your confidence. This is how I do it each morning: I reflect on why this work matters. I tell myself that Africa’s challenges require bold, transformative solutions and my disability should not be a barrier to the impact I am here to make.
If you are navigating the uncertainty of independent consulting, remember that Amollo is doing it with one eye!
Confidence comes from taking action. Own your brand, step forward boldly, and make things happen!
