2024 has not unfolded quite as I had envisioned. My meticulous plans were halted by my accident in mid-January, throwing my life into uncertainty. But amidst the chaos, there were lots of blessings. Though initially disruptive, my accident became a catalyst for deeper connections and profound moments of gratitude. The outpouring of love and support from family and friends was my motivation to get better. Their visits, calls, and messages gave me hope as I came to terms with my new disability.
As I journeyed towards recovery, I found a new purpose—to share my experience openly and authentically. On my WhatsApp channel, I posted videos of my progress, inviting others to witness how beauty and resilience can emerge from the ugly twists of life. I even managed to find more supporters for the Mathare community libraries fundraising campaign that we launched in December 2023.
At the close of the campaign last week, we seemed to have fallen short of our ambitious goals, having raised only 30% of our target. Upon reflection, this 30% was quite the achievement as it testified to the generosity and trust of 29 individuals who contributed to our cause. Their combined efforts resulted in our raising Ksh. 464,391 (USD 3213) with donations pouring in from 10 countries across 3 continents.
As we gathered this last Saturday to hand over the funds to the dedicated volunteers of the community libraries, our hearts swelled with gratitude and joy. It was a moment of celebration, a reminder of the impact that can be achieved when we come together with a shared purpose. We concluded by also thanking everyone else who had committed to supporting the Amollo Cup 2024, which I begrudgingly postponed to a time when I will be recovered enough to convene the event.
Thank you!
To God be the glory. You have done a great job and those kids will have a better Hun centre to read and improve their lives
